Four generations on one Assam estate
Chota Tingrai sits in the Tinsukia district of Upper Assam, the flagship garden of the Jalan family's tea estates.
In the 1980s the estate began working with Japanese tea makers to craft green tea in Assam. That partnership, revived in 2016, is why we make Japanese-style greens, hojicha and now matcha.
Today 100 hectares are certified organic, with inputs made on the estate and every lot traceable to its garden.
Matcha Assamica.
India's first commercially produced matcha.
A decade of work with Japanese tea makers, Japanese machinery adapted to Assam leaf, and in July 2026 our first lot sold at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre.
